Highlights
- UConn swept a doubleheader against UMass-Lowell. In game one, freshman Anthony Prate was stellar with two hits and two RBIs to go along with three stolen bases, including a steal of home. Game two saw Conor Moriarty and Isaac Feldstein each finish with a home run and three RBIs to power the Huskies to a 3-0 start to the season.
- Memphis got strong pitching from Drew Crosby and Jonathan Bowlan to beat in-state rival Tennessee for the Tigers first win of the season. The two pitchers combined to allow one run on just five hits. Trent Turner added a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth for the Tigers.
- UCF shutout Siena as five pitchers combined to allow only three hits and struck out 11 Saints. Kyle Marsh and Matthew Mika each had two hits for the Knights.
- Houston took down Nicholls State 5-3 to win its second game of the season. The Cougars finished with 13 hits as Connor Hollis and Jake Scheiner each went two-for-three with two RBIs. Starter Mitch Ullom went seven innings only giving up two earned runs and striking out five batters.
- USF fell to Iowa but redshirt freshman Shane McClanahan delivered a strong performance on the mound striking out nine batters in the four innings. A three-hour rain delay came during the fifth inning and the Bulls gave up four runs after the delay. Joe Genord’s solo home run was the only run for USF.
- For the second straight day, No. 6 East Carolina lost by one to No. 22 Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. Right-fielder Luke Bolka hit his first home run of the season for the Pirates. Jacob Wolfe had a strong start for East Carolina with five shutout innings and five strikeouts.
- Tulane split a doubleheader with Air Force to start its season after Friday’s (Feb. 17) season opener was rained out. Jarrett DeHart and Jeremy Mantalbano each had three hits and drove in two runs for the Green Wave. Sophomore Grant Witherspoon went three-for-four with a solo home run.
- Cincinnati fell to Northwestern State 3-2 to even their record at 1-1. Cincinnati was held to five hits but four of thise hits were for extra bases including triples by Ryan Noda and Joey Thomas.
