UConn's Montgomerie and USF's Montes take home baseball weekly honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending Feb. 26.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Coco Montes • So. • IF • USF
Montes led the Bulls at the plate with a .421 (8-for-19) batting average during a 5-0 week that included a win at No. 2 Florida State. Montes hit his second home run of the season, tallied three runs scored and had a team-high five RBIs. Montes did not have an error in the field over the five games and is riding a six-game hitting streak.

Wills Montgomerie • Jr. • RHP • UConn
Montgomerie led the Huskies to a 2-1 road win over No. 25 Texas with a career-high 13 strikeouts against the Longhorns. Montgomerie went 6.1 innings, scattering four hits and issuing two walks while keeping Texas off of the scoreboard for his first win of the season
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL   
Bryce Peterson • Jr. • OF • UCF
Peterson batted .429 (3-for-7) with five RBIs and had an on base percentage of .600 in a three-game sweep over Manhattan. Peterson hit a grand slam in a 10-1 win in the middle game of the series.
 
A.J. Bumpass • So. • OF • Cincinnati
Bumpass led the Bearcats with a .500 batting average, which was tied for tops in the conference last week. Bumpass finished with three RBIs, two doubles, a triple and a home run against the College of Charleston.
 
Eric Tyler • Sr. • 3B • East Carolina
Tyler had a hit in all four games over the week going 6-for-14 (.429). The senior also added a home run and four RBIs to help the Pirates to a 4-0 week at home.
 
Jake Scheiner • Jr. • INF • Houston
Scheiner hit .353 (6-for-17), recording a hit in all four games the Cougars played over the week. Scheiner hit two home runs, a double and added four RBIs to this totals.
 
Connor Alexander • Jr. • RHP • Memphis
Alexander picked up his first win of the season over Illinois State going seven innings scattering three hits while keeping the Redbirds off of the scoreboard. Alexander walked only one batter and struck out nine.
