Bracket Announced for 2017 Frontier Communications American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
- UConn earned the American regular season title and clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2017 Frontier Communications American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, to be held March 3-6 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. All 11 teams will compete for the championship title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
The tournament field is based on regular-season league records. The highest five seeds earned byes into the quarterfinals on March 4.
 
No. 1 UConn (29-0, 16-0 American) clinched the conference regular season title with a win over Temple on Feb. 22. The Huskies will open tournament play at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday versus the winner of No. 9 Tulsa and No. 8 Memphis.
 
No. 2 Temple (23-6, 13-3 American) opens tournament play at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday versus the winner of No. 10 Houston and No. 7 Cincinnati. The Owls defeated UCF in their regular season finale on Monday at CFE Arena.
 
No. 3 USF (22-7, 11-5 American) clinched the tournament’s third seed with a loss to UConn on Monday. The Bulls open tournament play on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET vs. the winner of No. 11 East Carolina and No. 6 SMU.
 
No. 4 UCF (19-10, 9-7 American) dropped a close decision to Temple in its final regular season game and will face No. 5 Tulane in the championship quarterfinals at Noon ET on Saturday.
 
No. 5 Tulane (16-13, 7-9 American) claimed the fifth seed in a four-way tie scenario involving SMU, Cincinnati and Memphis. The Green Wave will face No. 4 UCF on Saturday at Noon ET.
 
No. 6 SMU (16-13, 7-9 American) earned the sixth spot at the conference championship after defeating Houston on Monday. The Mustangs open tournament play on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern vs. 11th seeded East Carolina.
 
No. 7 Cincinnati (16-13, 7-9 American) will face No. 10 Houston in the first round of the conference championship on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
 
No. 8 Memphis (14-15, 7-9 American) takes on No. 9 Tulsa in the first round of the conference championship Friday at 4 p.m. ET. The Tigers defeated Tulane in their final regular season game on Monday.
 
No. 9 Tulsa (9-20, 5-11 American) battles No. 8 Memphis in the first round of the conference championship. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. Eastern. Tulsa defeated Cincinnati in its final game of the season on Monday.
 
No. 10 Houston (11-18, 4-12 American) claimed the championship’s 10th seed after dropping a decision to in-state rival SMU on Monday. The Cougars will take on seventh-seeded Cincinnati on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
 
No. 11 East Carolina (11-18, 2-14 American) opens tournament play on Friday at 8 p.m. ET as the 11th seed. The Pirates will face off with SMU in first round action.
