UCF’s Holder Earns American Women’s Golf Player of the Week Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UCF senior Ashley Holder was named the American Women's Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after posting a Top 10 finish at the UCF Challenge.
 
Holder tied for 10th in a field of 96 that included 10 ranked teams, including No.10 Miami, No. 19 Texas and No. 15 Kent State. The senior finished 5-under 211 (67-75-69) during the event with two rounds of 60. She led the Knights to a third-place finish at 10-under 854 (280-288-286) in the team rankings. Texas and Mississippi State joined UCF at -10 finishing in a three-way tie for third. During the three-day event, Holder posted 11 birdies and 39 pars, both ranking among tournament leaders.
 
American Women’s Golf Notebook:

UCF
The Knights had three players in the Top 20 during action at the UCF Challenge Feb. 5-7 in Orlando…Rookie Maria Balcazar led the field with 43 pars.
UCF will next compete in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Feb. 19-21.

East Carolina
Sophomore Kate Law carded a personal-best 67 during opening round action at the UCF Challenge, which tied for the fifth-lowest 18-hole score in program history…ECU finished tied for 13th overall.
The Pirates return to action Feb. 27 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami.

USF
The Bulls opened their spring campaign at the Florida Challenge and UCF Challenge…Senior Nicole Autrique carded her first Top 20 finish of the season at the Florida Challenge and posted two rounds of par or better at the UCF Challenge.
USF returns to the links on Feb. 10 at the Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee, Fla.

SMU
SMU climbed seven spots on the final day of the UCF Challenge and finished eighth, along with No. 34 Wisconsin…Rookie Kenzie Wright (71-70-70) led the Mustangs with a Top 10 individual finish.
SMU next competes at The Dickson Feb. 27-28 hosted by Houston in The Woodlands, Texas.

Tulane
Freshman Gabrielle Correia shot Tulane’s best individual round of the UCF Challenge (-2, 70) in the second round…The Green Wave finished tied for 13th overall at the event.
Tulane will next host the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Feb. 19-21 at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.
