PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 19.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake Scheiner • Jr. • INF • Houston
Scheiner led Houston to a perfect 4-0 week, hitting .812 (13-for-16) and slugging 2.062, scoring eight runs, driving in 15 runs and hitting six home runs without striking out. Scheiner had a multiple hits in every game including going 5-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBIs on Sunday (March 19), becoming the second player in conference history to hit three home runs in a game.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Robby Howell • Sr. • RHP • UCF
Howell only needed 95 pitches in a complete-game shutout against Jacksonville on Friday (March 17). Howell was perfect through 6.1 innings and only allowed three hits while striking out seven batters and not issuing a walk. The senior lowered his ERA to 2.01 this season.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
A.J. Bumpass • So. • OF • Cincinnati
Bumpass helped the Bearcats go 3-1 last week, hitting .583 (7-for-12) in the four games. In a doubleheader against Northeastern on Saturday (March 18), Bumpass went 6-for-10 with two runs scored and a home run.
Alec Trela • Fr. • INF • Memphis
Trela hit .467 (7-for-15), driving in six runs and hitting a home run as Memphis took two-of-three games from Missouri State on the road. In game two against the Bears, Trela went 4-for-5 with two RBIs.
Shane McClanahan • Fr. • LHP • USF
McClanahan threw a complete-game seven-inning shutout against Harvard striking out a career-high 11 batters and scattering six hits to improve to 4-0 on the season.
David Villar • So. • INF • USF
Villar hit .636 (7-for-11) in a four-game sweep of Harvard. Villar had a hit in every game and a home run in three of the four games with a grand slam in the final game. Villar finished with seven runs scored and 12 RBIs for the Bulls.
Hunter Williams • Sr. • INF • Tulane
Williams helped Tulane to a series win over Columbia hitting .467 (7-for-15) with three doubles, a home run and drawing four walks. Williams drove in four runs including three in the series finale.
