PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Houston shortstop Jake Scheiner earned two weekly national player of the week awards for his performance last week.
On Monday (March 20), Scheiner was named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and was named the Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Tuesday (March 21).
Last week Scheiner helped Houston to a perfect 4-0 record with a midweek win against McNeese State and a series sweep over Alabama State. Scheiner hit .813 (13-for-16) with eight runs, 15 RBIs and six home runs. In the series finale against Alabama State (March 19), Scheiner became the second person in conference history to have three home runs in a game as the sophomore went 5-for-5 with seven RBIs and four runs scored. Scheiner slugged 2.063 in the four games and walked once without striking out.
