Houston Sweeps Weekly Baseball Awards



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 26.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Connor Wong • Jr. • C • Houston
Wong helped the Cougars to a perfect 5-0 week including a midweek win at No. 15 Louisiana Lafayette and a series sweep on the road at No. 27 UC Irvine. Wong hit .458 (11-for-24) including two doubles and scored two runs for Houston. The junior also stole four bases and finished the week with three RBIs.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Trey Cumbie • So. • LHP • Houston
Cumbie improved to 3-0 on the season after throwing a complete-game shutout at No. 15 Louisiana Lafayette. Cumbie only allowed five hits and walked two batters while striking out five. The sophomore lowered his ERA to 0.92 after the outing. 
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL   
Ryan Noda • Jr. • INF/OF • Cincinnati
Noda hit .467 (7-for-15) and drove in two runs while scoring six for the Bearcats. Noda had a hit in every game and scored a run in Cincinnati’s win over No. 1 Louisville.
 
Eric Tyler • Sr. • INF/C • East Carolina
Tyler had a hit in every game including three multi-hit games to help the Pirates to a 4-1 week. Tyler finished the week with seven RBIs as well as two doubles and a home run.
 
Jonathan Bowlan • So. • RHP • Memphis
Bowlan helped Memphis to a 2-1 win over No. 11 Ole Miss going 8.1 innings against the Rebels and only allowing one run on four hits. Bowlan struck out eight Ole Miss batters in the no-decision.
 
Andy Bowman • Sr. • 1B • Memphis
Bowman hit .417 (5-for12) for Memphis as the Tigers had a perfect 4-0 week. Bowman drove in seven runs, including a four-RBI day against Southern where he hit a three-run home run.
 
Hunter Williams • Sr. • INF • Tulane
Williams helped Tulane to a 3-2 week with wins over McNeese State and at No. 15 Louisiana Lafayette. Against McNeese State Williams went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple and scored three runs. The senior hit .524 (11-for-21) over the week.
