PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UCF junior Manuel Elvira was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week after finishing as the runner-up at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite, the league announced on Wednesday.
Elvira led the Knights all weekend during the three day event in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The junior finished 6-under 210 (68-72-70), just one shot off the individual medalist. Elvira opened the event with a 4-under 68, matching the best round of the tournament, and was one of just three golfers to finish below 70 in the first round. He led the event in Par 5 scoring and finished second in total birdies. Elvira led UCF to the team championship as the Knights led wire to wire and won the event by seven strokes.
