UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Top-seeded UConn advanced to its fourth consecutive American championship title game with a 78-56 win over fourth-seeded UCF in semifinals action Sunday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena.
With the win, UConn advances to face the winner of the second-seeded Temple and third-seeded USF Monday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN2/WatchESPN.
Gabby Williams and Napheesa Collier paced four Huskies in double figure scoring with 16 points apiece. Collier also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. Crystal Dangerfield added 14 points off the bench while Katie Lou Samuelson chipped in 12. Samuelson scored 100
th career 3-pointer in the game tonight, the fourth-highest total in UConn history.
UCF’s Zykira Lewis led all players with a game-high 22 points, while teammate Aliyah Gregory contributed 13 points and eight rebounds. The Knights advanced to the semifinals following a 61-57 win over No. 5 seed Tulane on Saturday.
It was a physical first half and the Huskies led by just four points after the first period. The Huskies extended the lead to 12 at the break and opened the second half on a 10-2 run to increase the advantage to 20.
With the victory, UConn improved to 31-0 on the season. UCF dropped to 20-11 with the loss.
