UCF's Marsh and Houston's Romero earn weekly baseball honors


 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 5.

Kyle Marsh • So. • LF • UCF

Marsh hit .474 (9-for-19) over five games last week with 10 RBIs and two home runs, including a hit in all three games against Stony Brook. He also went 3-for-5 with six RBIs in an 11-2 win over No. 2 Florida. Marsh hit two doubles and a home run against the Gators.

Seth Romero • Jr. • LHP • Houston

Romero led the Cougars to a 7-3 win over No. 7 Cal State Fullerton. The lefty went eight innings, scattering seven hits and allowing three runs while striking out 10 Titans and only issuing one walk. It was Romero’s third 10-plus strikeout game of the season
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL   
Wills Montgomerie • Jr. • RHP • UConn
Montgomerie posted a career-high 14 strikeouts in six innings against Stetson in a 9-3 win for the Huskies. Montgomerie gave up four hits and one earned run and now has 27 strikeouts in his last two outings.
 
Trey Benton • Fr. • RHP • East Carolina
Benton threw a career-high seven innings in a shutout win over Appalachian State. The freshman struck out eight batters and allowed just two runners to reach base. Benton retired 11-straight batters from the second inning to the sixth inning.
 
Colton Hathcock • Jr. • RHP • Memphis
Hathcock picked up three saves, one against No. 9 Ole Miss and two against Georgia Southern, and allowed only two hits in 3.1 scoreless innings pitched. Hitchcock struck out two batters in each of his three appearances.
 
Kevin Merrell • Jr. • IF • USF
Merrell had a hit in all three wins against Toledo, hitting .417 (5-for-12) with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. Merrell also drew five walks and stole three bases while only striking out once for the Bulls.
 
Grant Witherspoon • So. • OF • Tulane
Witherspoon hit .615 (8-13) with five walks in four games last week. Witherspoon went 5-for-8 (.625), drew five walks and scored six runs in a series win against West Virginia.
