East Carolina’s Conover Named American Men’s Golf Player of the Week



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Carolina junior Tim Conover was named the American Men's Golf Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Conover posted a Top 5 finish after tying for fourth in a field of 90 at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Mar. 5-7 at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina. The junior finished with a 54-hole total of 2-under 208 (71-70-67) and moved up 12 places in the final round with his 3-under 67 on Tuesday. Conover, who finished in front of five ranked players, led the Pirates to a fifth-place finish in the team standings. He had the third most birdies in the field with 13 and also posted an eagle. It was his third Top 5 finish of the year and fourth Top 10 mark.

Cincinnati
• Sophomore Austin Squires () and senior Jared O’Kelley each recorded Top 10 finishes at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, South Carolina…The Bearcats finished fourth overall.
• Cincinnati returns to action on Mar. 20-21 competing at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio.

UConn
• Sophomore Jimmy Hervol (T-11th) led UConn to a third-place finish at the Colleton River Collegiate on Mar. 6-7…It was his fourth Top 20 finish of the year.
• UConn will compete at the PGA National Mar. 24-26 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

East Carolina
• East Carolina posted the third lowest round of the day (290), one stroke less than event winner Clemson, Tuesday at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto in Aiken, South Carolina…The Pirates finished fourth and earned their fifth Top 5 finish in eight events this season.
• The Pirates will return to action Mar. 11-12 at the General Hacker Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
 
Memphis

• Senior Sydney Chung led Memphis to a ninth-place finishat the Colleton River Collegiate hosted by Michigan State…Chung was eighth overall (222: 75-67-80).
• The Tigers next compete at the Valspar Invitational March 19-21 at The Floridian in Palm City, Fla.
 
Temple
• The Owls placed 17th overall in a strong field at the Cleveland Golf Palmettto…Sophomore Trey Wren (222:75-72-72) led Temple during the three-day event.
• The Owls’ next tournament is the Kingsmill Intercollegiate Mar. 19-21 in Williamsburg, Va.
