Tulsa freshman Greta Bruner won individual medalist honors while leading the Golden Hurricane to the team championship Tuesday at the Dale McNamara Invitational at the par-70 Tulsa Country Club Course.
Bruner turned in a final round 71 for a score of one-over par 211 and finished with a six-stroke victory over second-place Camille Orito of New Mexico State. The Hurricane team, trailing the Aggies of New Mexico State after Monday's two rounds, overcame the one-stroke deficit for a five-stroke victory.
The win for Bruner was the first tournament victory for a Tulsa freshman since October 2010 when Kristina Merkle won the Johnnie Imes Invitational. It was the first victory overall for a Tulsa golfer since Merkle won the 2013 Notre Dame Clover Cup and was the first team tournament title since the 2013 UAB Fall Beach Blast.
Tulsa senior Nadia Majidizadeh, from Tulsa's Union High School, turned in the best round of the day among the 54 participants with a one-under par 69. She knocked in four birdie putts on the day, coming at the par-4 fourth and seventh holes on the front nine and the par-5 16
th and par-3 17
th to finish out her round.
Sophomores Anneke Strobach and Olivia Jackson also finished among the top-20 individuals. Strobach finished in 13
th place with a 54-hole total of 225 after a score of 79 today, while Jackson turned in a solid 75 and finished in 18
th place overall with a 227 total.
