2017 American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship Set for This Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The American Athletic Conference is gearing up for its Women’s Golf Championship at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla. The three-day event, hosted by The American and UCF, will take place this Sunday through Tuesday, April 16-18.

Play on the 6,198-yard, par-72 Conservatory Course begins at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday with 18 holes each of the three days. An awards presentation will take place following the final round on Tuesday. Admission to the event is free and open to the public, and live scoring can be found through www.GolfStat.com.

The American Digital Network (ADN) will have live coverage of the 18th hole during the final round of the championship beginning at 11 a.m. ET. Once competition is complete, the ADN will carry the awards ceremony, as well as player and coaches interviews.   

The event features all nine American teams that sponsor women’s golf. The nine institutions that sponsor women’s golf are UCF, Cincinnati, East Carolina (ECU), Houston, Memphis, USF, SMU, Tulane and Tulsa.
 
UCF (No. 28), SMU (No. 39) and Houston (No. 44) are ranked among the nation’s Top 50 teams in the GolfStat team rankings released April 12.
 
Houston, last year’s champion, will look to defend its title. The Cougars won the event by 10 strokes over second place East Carolina. Sophomore Leonie Harm, a two-time American Player of the Week selection this season, leads Houston with a 72.56 scoring average this year. The 2016 American Championship individual medalist, Frida Gustafsson Spang (ECU), won the title by one stroke over runner-up Ashley Holder from UCF. Holder, a senior, has three Top 3 finishes under her belt at the American Championships. She was named the American Women’s Golf Player of the Week once this season and paces the Knights with a 71.96 average. SMU’s Lindsey McCurdy leads the field with a tournament-low 71.61 average and seven Top 10 finishes this season. She earned two American Player of the Week honors in 2016-17.
