CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
PALM COAST, Fla. – UCF shot a 1-under-par 287 during the final round to win the 2017 American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship by three strokes Tuesday afternoon at the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club. The Knights, who won the American Championship title in 2015, finished the three-day event 4-under 860.
UCF shot rounds of 284, 289, and 287, and placed three individuals among the Top 10. SMU finished second with a three-round total of 863 (290-290-283) and shot the lowest round of the day at 5-under 283, while Houston was third with a 3-over 867 (290-282-295).
Knights senior Ashley Holder claimed individual medalist honors after shooting 3-under 69 in the final round. She became the second UCF player to win the American Championship individual title after Monifa Sealy won the event in 2015. Holder finished 7-under 209 (69-71-69) and claimed the title by one stroke over runner-up Brigitte Dunne of SMU (68-73-69). Holder, Dunne, USF’s Maria Rodriguez and SMU’s Lindsey McCurdy each shot a 69 on Tuesday, the low round of the day.
NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals take place May 8-10 and the National Championship, hosted by Northern Illinois, is set for May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
