CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Led by three players in the top seven of the individual leaderboard, USF posted a team score of 287 (+3) after the first round of the 2017 American Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Innisbrook Resort Sunday afternoon in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Juniors Priyanshu Singh (E, 71), Jimmy Jones (E, 71) and senior Rigel Fernandes (+1, 72) paced the Bulls after the first 18 holes of play. USF has a one-stroke lead over second-place Houston (+4, 288) while UCF recorded a 5-over par 289 for third.
Houston junior Papito Gonzalez leads the way in the individual standings with a 3-under 68. UCF’s Manuel Elvira trails by one stroke and is in second place at 2-under 69, while Singh, Jones, Jimmy Hervol (UConn) and Michael Perras (Houston) are in third place with an even-par 71.
Gonzalez leads the field in Par 3 scoring and is tied for the lead in birdies (4) and Par 5 scoring.
The second round will begin at 8 a.m. Eastern on Monday.
