USF Wins American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship
Top-seeded Bulls defeat in-state rival UCF to win their fourth consecutive American title
 


Men's Championship - Final

Top-seeded USF won the American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 3 UCF on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

The Bulls defeated the Nos. 8, 5 and 3 seeds in the tournament to capture their fourth consecutive American Athletic Conference title.
 
USF's Sasha Gozun was named as the championship's Most Outstanding Performer as he went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles along with a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles.
 
UCF began the match by taking the doubles point with victories from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. USF took the No. 3 doubles spot, but UCF’s Korey Lovett and Danny Kerznerman produced a 6-4 win at No. 2, leaving the team point to be decided by the result at No. 1. Mariano Porter and Harrison Richmond clinched it for UCF over USF's Alberto Barroso-Campos and Sasha Gozun, 6-4.
 
USF fought back and tied up the score, 1-1, as Gozun produced a victory over  Lovett at the No.1 singles spot. In an effort to pull away with the win, Vadym Kalyuzhnyy and Jakub Wojcik earned straight-set wins of their own at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. The Bulls clinched the title when Justin Roberts earned a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-4 at No 2.
 
With the win, USF earned The American's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championship. Selections for the NCAA Championship will be announced May 2.
