All five Bulls finished in the top 20 to help USF men’s golf run away with a six-shot victory at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship on Tuesday.
USF (-16) captured its first title of the season by shooting an 11-under 277 in the final round of the rain-shortened event at Old Waverly Golf Club (par 72, 7,088 yards). Head coach Steve Bradley's Bulls topped three ranked programs, including No. 34 Lipscomb University (-10), No. 24 Ole Miss (-8) and No. 41 Kennesaw State (-5).
Claudio Correa and Jimmy Jones both tied for fourth place at 5-under to lead the charge to the trophy. The junior duo finished only two shots behind individual champion Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb, who defeated Kennesaw State's Chris Guglielmo in a three-hole playoff.
Correa collected seven birdies during his 4-under 68 in the second round of his second top-10 finish of the season. Jones (Tampa) followed up his opening-round 69 with a 70 to secure his team-leading third top-10 outing of the season.
Junior Christian DiMarco finished a shot outside the top 10 in a tie for 11th at 3-under with rounds of 71 and 70. Monday’s 36-hole day was cut short because of rain and 20 mph winds that delayed the start of the tournament.
Rigel Fernandes continued his hot stretch by tying for 15th place at 2-under. The senior from Bradenton, Fla., carded rounds of 72 and 70 after tying for fourth place at the Valspar Collegiate Championship on March 21.
Priyanshu Singh made his return to the lineup count by tying for 17th place at 1-under. The junior from Delhi, India cut five shots off his first-round score with a 69 in his second top-25 finish of the season.
