PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending April 30.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Eric Tyler • Sr. • INF/C • East Carolina
Tyler led East Carolina to a series win against Tulane, hitting .533 (8-for-15) over the week. Tyler had multiple hits in three games including a three-for-four outing in the series finale against the Green Wave including the game-winning RBI. Tyler drove in four runs and scored three runs while increasing his on-base streak to 31 games.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Joe Cavallaro • Jr. • RHP • USF
Cavallaro earned two saves as the Bulls won its series with Houston. Cavallaro did not allow a hit in 4.1 shutout innings of relief that included a three-inning save in the middle game of the series where he struck out five batters. Cavallaro also picked up the save in the series finale which was a one-run game in the Bulls favor.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Kam Gellinger • Sr. • INF • UCF
Gellinger helped the Knights to a series win over Memphis, hitting .667 (6-for-9) while driving in two runs and scoring two. Gellinger went 3-for-3 in the series finale with two runs scored and double.
Tim Cate • So. • LHP • UConn
Cate threw eight shutout innings in a no decision against Cincinnati. The sophomore struck out 12 batters in a 120-pitch outing.
Isaac Feldstein • RS-Jr. • OF • UConn
Feldstein hit .333 over the week for UConn and drove in seven runs while scoring two. Feldstein went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs in the series opener with Cincinnati. He also drew a walk in all four games.
Duke Stunkel • Jr. • OF/INF • USF
Stunkel went 7-for-13 (.538) in a series win against Houston. Stunkel had three hits in both the second and third games of the series and finished the weekend with one RBI and three runs scored.
Grant Witherspoon • So. • OF • Tulane
Witherspoon went 8-for-19 (.421) and drove in five runs for the Green Wave over the weekend. Witherspoon had two hits in all four games and in a midweek game against No. 11 LSU, he drove in three runs and scored three.
