GREENVILLE, N.C. – The No. 5 seed Memphis shut out No. 4 USF, 7-0, in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship Thursday morning at the East Carolina Softball Complex. The Tigers advanced to the conference semifinals with the win and will face No. seed 1 Tulsa Friday at 1:00 PM ET/ Noon CT.
The Tigers struck first with an RBI-single in the first from senior Lindsay Crowdus, followed by an RBI from Addison Maxwell in the second. Memphis extended its lead to 4-0 with two RBI singles from Crowdus and Regan Hadley in the top of the fifth. Lindsey Stickrod hit the final RBI of the contest plating Crowdus in the bottom of the sixth.
The Tigers (29-26) had four players with a multi-hit games in Kyler Trosclair (3-for-5), Crowdus (2-for-3), Hadley (2-for-4), and Strickrod (2-for-4). Seven different Tigers connected on at least one hit in the victory.
USF had one player with a multi-hit game in Astin Donovan (2-for-3) and had four players with at least one hit.
In the circle, Molly Smith (11-12) picked up the win for Memphis while Hannah Parker fell to 10-7 with the loss for the Bulls. Smith recorded nine strikeouts and no earned runs in the complete game win. It was the Tigers’ first win in American Championship play since 2014.
