Eleven American Athletic Conference Student-Athletes Receive 2017 NFCA Division I All-Region Honors



LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eleven players from the American Athletic Conference were named 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division All-Region, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Four members of the Houston Softball team were named to the 2017  NFCA Division I All-Region Teams.
 
Sophomore Savannah Heebner (Utility/Pitcher) was named to the first team as freshman Arielle James (second base) and senior Shelby Miller (Designated Player/Utility/Non-Pitcher) we tabbed to the second team. Sophomore Maya Thomas (outfield) rounded out the honors with a third-team selection.
 
Houston’s four honorees tie the 2008 squad for the most in program history. In 2008, Angel Shamblin (First Team), Laurie Wagner (First Team), Jennifer Klinkert (Second Team), and Jessica Valis (Second Team) were named NFCA All-Region.
 
The Cougars have 24 total NFCA All-Region honors to date.

Memphis senior outfielder Lindsay Crowdus has become the fifth player in school history to earn the title of an NFCA All-Region selection Thursday morning. Crowdus, a second-team pick, is the first Tiger since 2014 to receive the honor and first since 2011 to be named to the second-team.Crowdus broke multiple school records in her senior campaign including batting average (.451), hits (83), stolen bases (34), and triples (9). Multiple times throughout the season, Crowdus led the nation in batting average and triples per game.

Tulsa landed four players on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region teams as Emily Watson and Haley Meinen were named second-team while Maggie Withee and Julia Hollingsworth received third-team nods. The Hurricane (39-15 Overall, 15-3 The American) secured both the conference regular season and tournament crowns on the way to their ninth NCAA Regional appearance.

The Hurricane return to the diamond tomorrow as they open the NCAA Norman Regional against a familiar foe in Arkansas at 11:30 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
