American Athletic Conference Annual Spring Meeting Set for May 30-June 1 in Key Biscayne, Florida

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference membership will gather for its Annual Spring Meeting next week at the Ritz Carleton Key Biscayne in Key Biscayne, Florida. Presidents, athletic directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives and men’s and women’s basketball coaches from The American’s member institutions, as well as Conference staff members, will attend the meeting from Tuesday, May 30-Thursday, June 1.

“We have always enjoyed productive sessions with our presidents, athletic directors, SWAs, coaches and conference staff members when we convene for this meeting,” said American Commissioner Mike Aresco. “We will again have a full agenda of Conference and NCAA-related topics, and this year we take pleasure in  welcoming Wichita State University as the newest member of our Conference. Topics on our agenda will include our Power 6 branding campaign that was featured prominently in our recently released Strategic Plan, our future television and online strategies, and our marketing and branding initiatives. Among the NCAA issues that will be reviewed will be the Inter-Association health and safety guidelines, concussion protocols, venue security, transfer rules, student-athlete time demands, and the recently adopted football recruiting model which our schools strongly supported. Our faculty athletic representatives will report on our successful inaugural Academic Consortium meeting at Temple University in March, and, as in the past, we will take time to celebrate the remarkable academic and athletic achievements of our student-athletes in 2016-17.”

Several executive and athletic director committee appointments will be made for the upcoming year, and executives from ESPN and CBS Sports will address The American’s membership. The Conference’s consultants from Wasserman Media Group will join Commissioner Aresco in discussing the Conference’s television, media and digital rights strategies.
