PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The NCAA announced the field of 64 teams in the 2017 Division I Baseball Championship and three teams from The American earned spots in the field.
Houston (40-19) was selected to host a regional after winning the American Baseball Championship and sharing the regular season title. The Cougars are in a region with Baylor (34-21), Texas A&M (36-21) and Iowa (38-20). Houston will begin play on Friday, June 2 at 7 p.m. ET against the Iowa Hawkeyes with the game being televised on ESPNU.
UCF, who shared the regular season title with Houston, will be the No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee Regional at Florida State. The Knights’ (40-20) first game of the regional will be against the No. 3 seed Auburn Tigers (35-24) Friday at Noon ET on ESPN2. The other half of the Tallahassee Regional will be No. 1 Florida State (39-20) and No. 4 Tennessee Tech (40-19).
USF earned The American’s last bid in the tournament and will play in the Gainesville Regional as the No. 2 seed. USF (41-17) will play Friday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN3 against No. 3 seed Bethune-Cookman (33-23). No. 1 seed Florida (42-16) will play No. 4 seed Marist (33-21) on the other half of the bracket.
