PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference had three student-athletes earn Academic All-District Honors, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The award recognizes student-athletes from across the nation for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
East Carolina’s Travis Watkins and Charlie Yorgen were named to the District 3 team and Tulane’s Hunter Williams was named to the District 6 team.
Watkins, a graduate student, boasts a 4.0 GPA in his MBA program at East Carolina. On the field, Watkins leads the Pirates with 36 RBIs and is second on the team with six home runs while hitting .323 so far this year.
Yorgen is a senior for the Pirates and holds a 3.72 GPA while majoring in Business Management. The infielder is second on the team with a .355 batting average and 30 RBIs.
Williams, a senior, has a 4.0 GPA in Neuroscience at Tulane while leading the Green Wave with a .349 batting average, 67 hits and 15 doubles. Williams is second on the team with nine home runs and 35 RBIs.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
