USF's Gozun and Tulane’s Schmitz Earn The American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Players of the Year Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - USF senior Sasha Gozun and Tulane junior Constantin Schmitz were chosen by the league's nine head coaches as the American Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Players of the Year.

Tulane's Ewan Moore was named the Freshman of the Year, while Bulls' head coach Ashley Fisher was selected as the Coach of the Year.

Gozun, the No. 52 ranked singles player in the ITA, led top-seeded USF to its fourth American Athletic Conference title. The senior was named the Most Outstanding Tournament Performer after producing four combined wins in singles and doubles. Gozun has a 17-11 overall record heading into the NCAA Championships and has produced four wins against opponents ranked in the top 60 of the ITA in singles play. The Bulls (17-8) open the 2017 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship against No. 35 Duke (16-9) in Athens, Georgia.

Schmitz, the No. 18 ranked singles player in the ITA, leads Tulane to its 11th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they are 7-10 overall. The junior takes a 15-3 dual singles record at the No. 1 spot and a 9-3 dual doubles record into the NCAA Championships. Schmitz earned The American Player of the week accolades on four occasions this spring.

Moore owns a 15-5 overall singles record and a 8-12 doubles record this season. The freshman was ranked as high as 125th nationally and he is tied with Schmitz for most dual wins on the team.

Fisher directed his squad to its fourth consecutive American Athletic Conference title with a 4-1 win over No. 3 seed UCF at the recent league championship. He guided the Bulls to their fourth NCAA tournament appearance in as many seasons.

Gozun and Tulsa senior Or Ram-Harel were the only players selected to both the singles and doubles all-conference teams. Six of the nine schools had players selected.
