UCF and Houston Collect All-American Recognition



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Houston’s infielder Jake Scheiner and lefthanded pitcher Trey Cumbie and UCF righthanded pitcher Robby Howell were named NCAA Division I Second Team All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball.
 
Scheiner, the 2017 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and American Baseball Championship Most Outstanding Player, hit .347 with a league-high 17 home runs and 57 RBIs.
 
Cumbie (10-1) and Howell (10-0) were both named American Athletic Conference Pitchers of the Year and finished tied for the lead in The American in wins. Cumbie also finished tops in the conference with a 1.88 ERA over 96 innings pitched and also threw four complete games. Howell helped the Knights to their first postseason appearance since 2012 with a 3.28 ERA and 90 strikeouts over 96 innings of work.
 
All three players will be in action in NCAA Regionals as Houston was chosen to host a regional and will play Iowa on Friday. UCF will be the No. 2 seed in the Tallahassee Regional with a first-round matchup against Auburn.
