PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference and the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation, as part of its Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) program, once again will partner together for the benefit of education throughout the 2017 college football season. From Storrs, Connecticut to Dallas, Texas, teachers and students in the surrounding communities of American member institutions will be the beneficiaries of the College Football Playoff’s philanthropic organization.
This fall, the CFP Foundation will be distributing $150,000 through DonorsChoose.org, $10,000 for each institution to fund DonorsChoose.org projects impacting schools, teachers and students in their respective cities and $10,000 for The American to fund its Football Media Day Community Service event. As part of the $150,000, each school participating in the American Football Championship Game in December will receive an additional $10,000 for application to initiatives in their communities. This will be the second year that the Conference has taken part in this highly impactful program. This year, Extra Yard for Teachers Week will take place Sept. 16-23 on campuses all across the country.
In December 2016, when Navy and Temple played in the American Football Championship Game, the CFP Foundation donated $100,000 as part of its EYFT program to the communities in Annapolis and Philadelphia that helped finance a combined 154 DonorsChoose.org projects supporting 91 schools, 134 teaches and 26,294 students.
As part of The American’s contribution, players in attendance at its upcoming Football Media Days (July 17-18 in Newport, Rhode Island) will be packing sport sacks that will be distributed to youth in the Rhode Island area on behalf of the Conference and the CFP Foundation.
“We value the partnership and association we have with the College Football Playoff Foundation in support of education,” said American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco. “We are proud that our schools and the Conference are contributing to an initiative that provides additional educational resources for teachers and students that will have a lasting impact on the lives of so many young people.”
“We are grateful to the American Athletic Conference for their relationship, and we are excited about the opportunity to recognize the great work of teachers and drive impact throughout the conference footprint,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. “This is a great example of expanding our support for teachers through college football partnerships.”
