PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the hiring of Greg Barlow and Alyssa Shannon as communications interns, Cody Getz as digital network intern, and Jordan Reid as administrative fellow.
Barlow joins The American after spending the past two years as an athletic media relations assistant at the College of the Holy Cross. While with the Crusaders, he served as the primary sport contact for volleyball, softball, swimming & diving, and track & field. A 2015 graduate of Colby-Sawyer College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management, Barlow volunteered with the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds in Providence, R.I. and with the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass. He was also a reporter for the Stonebridge Press & Villager Newspapers in Southbridge, Mass.
Shannon is a 2017 graduate of California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. She was a graduate assistant in the athletics communications office at Cal State Bakersfield and served as the primary contact for women’s cross country and water polo. She was also the secondary contact for beach volleyball and softball. Shannon received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications in 2015 and was a four-year letter winner on the women’s basketball team at CSUB. She received the 2017 NCAA Inclusion CoSIDA Grant and was one of two Division I recipients nationwide.
Getz graduated from Mansfield University (Pa.) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Electronic Media. He was a video production work study student in the marketing department at Mansfield and completed a video production internship with the Elmira Jackals, an ECHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. In his role with the Jackals, Getz was responsible for producing highlights and promotional videos while operating the camera for live broadcasts. Getz was also Assistant Director of Video Operations with the Home Page Network in Wellsboro, Pa. and served as the correspondent at sports events while shooting, editing, producing and directing video segments for the company.
Reid will be involved in most aspects of the conference office administration during her tenure, including sport administration, championship management, budgeting, compliance and eligibility and communications and digital media. She is a 2015 graduate of Delaware State University (DSU) where she received her Master of Science in Sports Administration. Reid earned her undergraduate degree at Delaware State and was a four-year letter winner on the softball team. She was an assistant softball coach at Appalachian State University from 2014-17, and completed a sports administration internship at App State where she assisted in the areas of marketing, business affairs, external operations and athletic development.
