Dunne, McCurdy Advance Through Stroke Play at U.S. Women's Amateur

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – SMU junior Brigitte Dunne advanced to the Round of 32 at the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur before eventually falling by a 5 and 4 decision. The previous day, her teammate Lindsey McCurdy qualified as the No. 7 seed with a 2-under 142 performance in stroke play. The Mustang alum fell 2 and 1 to Virginia Tech's Elizabeth Bose.

The Championship is being held at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.

This was Dunne's second appearance at the Championship, but first in the Round of 32. She advanced to the match play Round of 64 in 2015. Dunne fell behind early to her competition Kristen Gillman of Alabama, but was able to go stroke for stroke firing even par or better on holes No. 3-10. Gillman pulled ahead on hole 11 and closed it out for the victory.

Dunne reached the Round of 32 by way of sudden death victory, upsetting the No. 18 seed in 20 holes. Dunne finished stroke play tied for 46th after shooting rounds of 73 and 76 to bring her 36-hole total to 5-over 149.

At the American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship in May, Dunne finished as the runner-up following a three-round score of 210 at the par-72 Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach.
