PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the week ending Aug. 27.
Offensive Player of the Week
Christine Creighton * Sr. * M/F * UCF
Creighton recorded her first game-winning goal of the season and her second as a Knight. She took a pair of shots against No. 4 UNC, connecting with the upper left corner of the net on her second shot, giving UCF the 2-1 victory in overtime over the Tar Heels. The win was UCF’s first over a top-five opponent since 2009 and first over North Carolina in program history (the 2011 NCAA advancement is statistically a tie due to soccer rules).
Defensive Player of the Week
Vanessa Gilles * Sr. * D * Cincinnati
Gilles helped lead the Bearcats defense to its third shutout of the year in a 1-0 win over Miami on Sunday. She opened the week by scoring both goals to tie Pitt (2-2) after being down 0-2 on Thursday. The multi-goal game against Pitt is the third of her career and she’s now tied at second in the league for goals with three.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Catie Brown * Jr. * SMU
Brown played in all 209:54 minutes in the net in a 1-0-1 week for the Mustangs. She compiled 10 saves in 31 shots faced and allowed two goals over the two road matches. Nine of her saves in 21 shots faced (one goal allowed) came from SMU’s 1-1 (2OT) draw at Gonzaga, while her lone save in 10 shots faced secured the Mustang’s 2-1 (OT) win over Washington.
Rookie of the Week
Dina Orschmann * Fr. * F * UCF
Orschmann helped position UCF to its first win over a top-five opponent since 2009. Her first and only shot of the game against No. 4 North Carolina came on a rebound, which she sent in the back of the net to pull UCF even with the Tar Heels in regulation play. UCF would eventually win 2-1 in overtime.
Weekly Honor Roll
Julie Gavorski * Sr. * F * Cincinnati
Gavorski scored on a penalty kick to lead the Bearcats to a 1-0 win over Miami (Fla.). The game-winning goal was the eighth of her career, which ties for the sixth-most in program history.
Annah Linberg * Sr. * M/F * ECU
Lindberg scored two goals in ECU’s (2-1) win over Davidson. The multi-goal game was the first of her career. The Pirates improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

Adams helped the USF defense hold Alabama to one goal after they scored early in the seventh minute. She scored the golden goal in the first period of overtime for her third-career goal to top Alabama 2-1.

Hauksdottir has taken and made each of the penalty kick opportunities for the Bulls this season, including one giving USF the game-tying goal against Alabama.
