SMU to Head to Canada for Summer Tour

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's basketball team will take on an eight-day trip to Canada from August 7-14. The journey to Montreal and Toronto will include three games as well as visits to historic sites in both cities and an excursion to Niagara Falls.

"This is such an important trip for our team," said Head Coach Tim Jankovich. "It allows us 10 summer practices that we ordinarily could not have had. With only three players back from last year's team, added practice time is obviously critical. Our returning guys have done a great job of leading and helping me coach the new players. As for the trip, we are excited to visit two amazing cities in Canada and to see some of the best sights those cities have to offer."

SMU won the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2016-17 and returns two starters in second team all-conference pick Shake Milton and Jarrey Foster. Co-Sixth Man of the Year Ben Emelogu also returns for the Mustangs.

The trip begins with three days in Montreal, where the Mustangs will play McGill University. The team will also visit Mount Royal Park and St. Joseph's Oratory, Old Montreal historic district and take a boat tour of the city on the Saint Lawrence River.

The Mustangs then head to Toronto for five days. The Ponies will play a pair of exhibition games versus Ryerson University and the Nike Crown League Champion. Around the basketball games and practices, the Mustangs will go to Rogers Centre for a Major League Baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees, visit Eaton Centre and take a trip to Niagara Falls.
