PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 10. Cincinnati receives two weekly honor nods after an undefeated weekend.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jaycie Brown * Sr. * M * Cincinnati
Brown netted a game-winner against Purdue to keep Cincinnati undefeated (6-0-1), the program’s best start ever. The game-winner was the sixth of her career, tying her for eighth all-time in program history.
Defensive Player of the Week
Vanessa Gilles * Sr. * D * Cincinnati
Gilles anchored the Cincinnati defense to another undefeated weekend on the pitch, allowing one goal (an own goal to Purdue) in 180 minutes. Gilles played the full 180 minutes to help the Bearcats erase a 0-1 deficit agsint Purdue and earn its fourth shutout of the season over Northern Kentucky to remain the only undefeated team in the league.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Rachel Estopare * Jr. * Houston
Estopare racked up 18 saves over the weekend, including 10 in a 4-1 win over Southern Miss. She now has four games this season with eight or more saves and holds a goals against average of 1.22. Estopare recorded her second shutout of the season in the Cougs' 0-0 double-overtime draw vs. Lamar Sunday.
Rookie of the Week
Kess Elmore * Fr. * F * UConn
Elmore compiled six points over the weekend off three goals in two games. She had the game-winner in UConn’s overtime win against Arkansas Thursday night.
Honor Roll List
Sophie Gorman * Fr. * M * Cincinnati
Gorman made the game-winner Thursday against Northern Kentucky and scored the equalizer against Purdue Sunday. She leads UC in scoring with seven points.
Madison Less * Fr. * GK * Cincinnati
Less posted three saves and her second shutout in three matches to help Cincinnati defeat NKU 1-0.
Mia Brascia * Fr. * M * Houston
Brascia posted her first career goal against Southern Miss. and let the team in shots against Lamar with four.
Kelsey Thein * Sr. * D * Houston
Thein finished the weekend with a team-high two assists, both posted in the Cougars 4-1 win over Southern Miss.
Mikayla Morton * So. * F * Memphis
Morton scored her fourth goal of the season in the 3-1 victory over Rice Thursday. She owns a .222 shot percentage this season.
