PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 17.
Offensive Player of the Week
Sean Clarke * Fr. * M * Cincinnati
Clarke led the Cincinnati offense last week as the Bearcats defeated two ranked opponents on the road. The midfielder scored five points over the week, including the game-winning goal in a 1-0 shutout at No. 13 Kentucky. Clarke found the back of the net in the 82
nd minute vs. the Wildcats. He added a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over No. 19 Bowling Green last Saturday.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jordan Cano * Sr. * B * SMU
Cano led the SMU backline to two shutouts last weekend. The Mustangs opened the week with a 4-0 win over Loyola (Md.), who was receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 rankings. SMU posted their second consecutive shutout when they defeated Brown, 1-0, on Sunday. It was the first loss of the season for the Bears, who entered Sunday’s matchup a 4-0-0 record.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Pearce Skinner * R-Fr. * Cincinnati
Skinner made 13 saves last week, including a career-high nine on the road in a 1-0 shutout vs. No. 13 Kentucky. The rookie finished the week by stopping four shots in a 3-1 win over No. 19 Bowling Green last Saturday. Skinner played all 180 minutes in goal last week and posted a combined .929 save percentage over two games.
