Temple and Tulane take home second round of weekly cross country honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced its second round of cross country weekly honors in 2017 through the weeks ending on Sept. 10 and Sept. 17.
 
Male Athlete of the Week
Marc Steinsberger * Graduate Student * Temple
Steinsberger led the Owls to their second straight title in 2017, finishing first overall in the Rider Invitational on Sept. 15. This marked the second year in a row he won this race. Steinsberger ran for a time of 24:56.11 in the 8K course, just 1.51 seconds in front of his teammate Kristian Jensen. Two other Owls joined them in rounding out the top five to secure the win. The Owls jumped to ranking No. 9 in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region after this weekend.
 
Female Athlete of the Week
Emma Newton * Sr. * Tulane
Newton guided Tulane to its second first place finish this year after winning the LSU Invitational on Sept. 16. She led the way through the 5K course, notching a time of 17:43.33 to secure the title. This is the second straight year she has won this race, bettering her time from last season by over 10 seconds. Three teammates joined Newton in finishing in the top five. The Green Wave rank No. 10 in the South Central Region.
