Women's Soccer: Week 7 Preview



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UConn and Temple open American Athletic Conference league play this weekend.
 
UCF 13/23 opened league action last weekend with a 0-0 (2OT) draw against Cincinnati who was 25 in TopDrawerSoccer rankings, and then topped ECU, 4-0. The Knights return to the UCF Soccer Complex to host Tulsa on Sept. 28. Senior forward Kayla Adamek was named to TDS’s Team of the Week after netting two goals in the Knights 4-0 win at ECU and earning the conference Offensive Player of the Week nod.
 
The first road matches in conference play await the Bearcats next week as Cincinnati RV/21 travel to face UConn and Temple. Freshman defender Karli Royer’s game-winning goal vs. USF came off an in-swinging corner kick and landed her on TDS’s Team of the Week honorable mention released Tuesday.
 
UConn returns to action this weekend to open American Athletic Conference play after an 11-day haitus. The Huskies take on Cincinnati RV/21 on Thursday and then meet ECU Sunday. Freshman Kess Elmore leads the team in scoring with five goals and an assist for 11 points.
 
ECU hits the road for the first time since Sept. 10, when the Pirates head to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Temple at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. Junior midfielder-forward Courtney Cash has a team-high 12 points for ECU with five goals and two assists.
 
The Tigers opened conference play unbeaten 1-0-1. Memphis will travel to Florida to take on USF and UCF 13/23 this weekend as league action continues. The Memphis at USF match-up Thursday will be aired on The American Digital Network.
 
USF’s 2-1 win over ECU last week clinched head coach Denise Schilte-Brown’s 200th career win. The Bulls will head back to Corbett this week for a 7 p.m. game against Memphis on Thursday that will air on The American Digital Network.
 
Following the two-match road swing last week, the Mustangs return home to host a three-match homestand. SMU closes out its non-conference slate Friday against New Mexico State. Hannah Allred scored her first two goals in the 3-3 (2OT) draw against Memphis, while Vanessa Valadez leads the Mustangs with five total goals (three game-winners).
 
Temple opens up conference play at home vs. ECU Thursday and against Cincinnati RV/21 Sunday. The Owls are seeking its fourth win in a row at home.
 
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 28 against UCF 13/23 before facing USF to close the second week of league against at USF.
