PROVIDENCE, R.I. – American Athletic Conference teams return to the pitch this week, while four teams are ranked in the top-25 polls or receiving votes.
UCF
20/- hosts LSU at the UCF Soccer Complex Friday before traveling to play Florida International Sunday. One week after making its return to the United Soccer Coaches’ poll, the Knights jumped four spots to No. 20 in Tuesday’s latest ranking.
UConn returns to action on Thursday night when it plays host to Arkansas at Joseph Morrone Stadium. The Huskies will then travel to Bronx, N.Y. to play Fordham Sunday afternoon.
ECU hits the road for a two-match stretch against inner-state rivals NC State
RV/23 Thursday at 7 p.m. ET and Charlotte Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Pirates are off to its best start in program history this season (4-0-1).
Two matches await Cincinnati
RV/24 this week as they play at Northern Kentucky Thursday and then play host to Purdue Sunday at Gettler Stadium. Senior forward Julie Gavorski was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week released Sept. 5. The attacker scored twice in a come-from-behind win, against Big 10 foe Northwestern
RV/21, as the Bearcats are off to an unbeaten 4-0-1 start to the season.
Houston is back in action this weekend when it returns to the Carl Lewis Complex to host Southern Mississippi on Friday, Sept. 8 and Lamar on Sunday, Sept. 10. Due to the catastrophic flooding in the Houston area, the Cougars did not travel and compete last week.
Memphis
RV/18 (5-0) will resume play this weekend in the Memphis Tournament at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Tigers will take on Rice Friday and Ole Miss
RV/- Sunday. In last week’s action Memphis tallied two shutouts, the program’s fourth overall on the year.
USF has cancelled its match against Mississippi State on Thursday and will not travel to Gainesville, Fla. and face Florida
9/7 Sunday night due to Hurricane Irma warnings in the area.
SMU
23/RV will host the second game of its four-game homestand against Indiana on Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
Temple will be off for 12 days before traveling to Towson to take on the Tigers on Sept. 15.
Tulsa will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to face Ole Miss
RV/- and Rice in the Memphis Invitational.
