Women's Volleyball: Tournament action continues with 33 matches

>Week three of The American women’s volleyball season is comprised of 33 tournament matches with 11 teams returning to action.

>No. 23 Wichita State cracked the national poll this week after securing an undefeated 6-0 start through its first two tournaments. The Shockers captured the league’s Offensive Player of the Week honor for the second straight week with Tabitha Brown earning the award. Wichita State will take on three opponents this weekend including Duquesne, No. 14 Oregon, and Cal Poly (RV) at the Nike Classic in Eugene, Ore.

>Tulsa joins the Shockers in coming off a 3-0 weekend after winning the SIUE Tournament. Taylor Horsfall recorded 6.18 digs per set and earned the Defensive Player of the Week award. The Golden Hurricane (4-2) will welcome three foes in its home opening tournament this weekend.

 >Three out of four of the Huskies’ wins have been sweeps this season, as UConn (4-2) saw success while hosting its Dog Pound Challenge last weekend. The Huskies went 2-1, and their one loss came from a five-set decision to LSU. Kayla Williams ranks 11th in the nation with 0.65 aces per set and is 13th in the country with 15 service aces. The Huskies are set to square off with Albany, Villanova, and Princeton this weekend.

>Tulane (5-2) won its first two contests last week to go on a five-match winning streak but suffered a 3-1 setback to Stephen F. Austin to end the weekend. Kaylie McHugh was named the Bulldog Invitational’s Most Valuable Libero and is currently ranked 17th in the nation with 132 total digs. The Green Wave will welcome three opponents to its gym while hosting the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic this weekend.
