Cincinnati & Houston take home indoor track & field weekly honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors for the week ending on January 14.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Elijah Hall * Sr. * Houston * Katy, Texas
Hall took first place in the 60-meter dash at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational in Houston on Friday with a time of 6.60—the No. 1 time in the NCAA this season. Not only was his time the fastest in the country, but also the best in the world in 2018 according to IAAF.org. The senior’s mark stands as a personal record.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Tiona Lattimore * So. * Cincinnati * Cincinnati, Ohio
Lattimore shined in two events at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday. Her time of 24.03 in the 200-meter dash is the top time in the conference this year, while ranking 23rd in the nation. Her time of 7.48 in the 60-meter dash ranks sixth in the league, as she captured a pair of top eight finishes in both events.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Adrian Valles * Sr. * Cincinnati * Pamplona, Spain
Valles cleared a height of 5.47 meters (17’ 11.25”) in the pole vault at the Kentucky Invitational on Friday to rank fourth in the NCAA and No. 1 in The American. The senior leads all other conference pole vaulters by nine inches this season. His height finished second in the meet and bettered his mark from December by 0.17 meters.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Tonye'cia Burks * Sr. * Houston * Longview, Texas
Burks placed first in the triple jump at the Cougars’ Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational with a distance of 12.93 meters (42-4.75). Her mark stands seventh in the NCAA and first in the conference, just missing her own school record by 0.06 meters.
