PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its swimming and diving honors for competition leading up to the week ending Jan. 14.
Female Swimmer of the Week
Andrea Podmanikova * Fr. * SMU
Podmanikova produced two individual wins and contributed in a second-place relay finish in SMU’s dual meet against No. 10 Missouri. The freshman began the meet with a first-place time of 1:03.36 in the 100 breast. Podmanikova followed that up by defeating the field in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.82. In the 200 medley relay, she helped the squad finish second in 1:43.30.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Jonathan Gomez * Sr. * SMU
Gomez recorded three first-place finishes in three individual races Saturday versus Northwestern. The Colombia native touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:19.54. Gomez then paced the field in the 200 fly with a time of 1:47.91, qualifying for NCAA B cuts. In the 400 IM, he placed first with a time that ranks fourth in The American (3:58.62).
Female Diver of the Week
Alicia Roueche * RS-Sr. * ECU
Roueche earned a second and first place score in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events respectively this past weekend against South Carolina. The redshirt senior finished with 282.60 points in the 1-meter and 324.75 points in the 3-meter. Both scores are fifth-best in The American.
Male Diver of the Week
Mitch Godar * Sr. * Cincinnati
Godar put together first and fourth-place scores against Miami (Ohio) Friday. The product of Cleves, Ohio, finished with a score of 303.67 in the 1-meter and 238.94 in the 3-meter.
