UConn’s Williams, Cincinnati’s Thomas Earn Weekly WBB Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 31.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabby Williams • Sr. F • UConn
Senior forward Gabby Williams scored 20 points and dished-out seven assists in top-ranked UConn’s win over Memphis Sunday afternoon in the conference opener for both teams. Williams was a perfect 10-of-10 from the floor and also recorded four steals in 32-minutes of action. The 10-of-10 performance was one field goal shy of the most FG’s made without a miss in program history as Rebecca Lobo made all 11 of her field goal attempts on December 23, 1994 in a win over Iona.    

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Iimar’i Thomas  Fr. • F • Cincinnati
Thomas scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench in a 66-54 win at ECU on Saturday to open American Athletic Conference play. The rookie made 64-percent (7-of-11) of her shots from the field and was the team’s second highest leading scorer behind Ana Owens.

Scored a game-high 19 points against Temple last Saturday, UCF’s first win over the Owls in league play

Had 18 points and seven assists, both game-highs, in a 66-54 win at ECU last Saturday
 
Jasmyne Harris So.  G Houston
Averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 assists and 6.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Houston, shot 50-percent (17-of-34) from the field
 
Maria Jespersen Sr.  F USF
Posted her eighth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Sunday’s win over Tulane
 
Kendrian Elliott So.  F Tulsa
Shot 54-percent (6-of-11) from the floor, finished with 14 points and six rebounds in a win over Wichita State
