UConn's Nurse, UCF's Kaba Earn Weekly Accolades



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 21.
 
  AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kia Nurse   Sr.   G    UConn
Senior guard Kia Nurse averaged 18.0 points and shot 60.0 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from long-range in a 3-0 week for the top-ranked Huskies. Nurse had 13 points and five rebounds in a win over No. 9 Texas and recorded 17 points and was 5-7 from 3-point range against Tulsa Thursday night. The Hamilton, Ontario native finished with 24 points, six rebounds and four assists at Temple. Nurse was 4-of-8 from deep and continues to lead the nation in 3-point field goal shooting percentage at 50.0 percent.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Masseny Kaba   Fr.   F   UCF
Kaba helped the Knights to an undefeated week, 2-0, at home. She finished with a game-high 16 points, collected seven rebounds and a career-best four steals in UCF’s first home win over Tulane since joining The American. The rookie tallied six points, two boards and two blocks in the Knights’ first-ever regular season sweep of SMU. UCF’s 5-2 mark in conference play is its best start since 2008-09.

Had a game-high 31 points against Memphis while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and scored 12 points versus Wichita State. She finished the week averaging 21.5 points per game
 
Kolby Morgan Sr. G Tulane
Averaged 14.0 points and 4.5 rebounds through two games of conference play last week. With her 17-point performance versus Tulsa on Sunday, she is just three points away from being ranked fifth in NCAA active career scoring
 
Diamond Lockhart Sr. G Wichita State
Averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists last week in wins against SMU and No. 23 USF. She finished with a team-high tying 16 points, and collected eight rebounds and seven assists in a 64-56 upset over USF
