USF's Jespersen, UConn's Walker Claim Weekly Accolades



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly women's basketball honors for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 28.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maria Jespersen Sr. F USF
Senior forward Maria Jespersen poured in a game-high 24 points as the Bulls bounced back with a 76-60 victory over Temple on Sunday. She added in six rebounds, two assists and two blocks all while shooting 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) from the field on the contest, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Jespersen sits second on the USF roster with 17.3 points per game and leads the Bulls on the boards with 9.1 rebounds per outing.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Megan Walker Fr. F UConn
Freshman Megan Walker put forth a pair of double-figure performances in a 2-0 week for the Huskies, helping No. 1 UConn remain undefeated on the season. She averaged 11.5 points on 46.7 percent shooting and 3.5 rebounds, beginning with a 10-point, six-rebound outing at Memphis on Wednesday. Walker culminated her week with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting on Saturday against Tulane. For the week, she was a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 6-of-7 from the foul line.

Zakiya Saunders RS-Sr. G UCF
Recorded her second-straight 20-plus point performance to lead UCF over Tulsa, totaling 20 points with seven rebounds in 40 minutes. She converted on 8-of-18 from the field with an assist, a block and a steal

Serithia Hawkins Jr. G Houston
Posted a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Cougars completed the comeback win against SMU on Saturday. With seven defensive rebounds on the game, she moves into a tie for seventh all-time in Houston program history

Tanaya Atkinson Sr. G Temple
Averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals for the Owls in two games last week, including her 11th career double-double against Penn on Wednesday with 19 points and 11 boards. At USF on Sunday, she tallied a team-high 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists

Kayla Manuirirangi So. G Tulane
Hit double-figure scoring totals in both games for the Green Wave, including 10 in Wednesday's win over ECU and a team-high 13 at UConn on Saturday. She totaled eight assists for the week and shot 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from the floor, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc

Cesaria Ambrosio Jr. G Wichita State
Led the Shockers to their fifth-straight win on Sunday with a career-high 19 points at Memphis, adding in six assists and three boards. She set career-highs with 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the foul line
