Cincinnati, Houston, ECU and SMU take home indoor track & field weekly honors


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors for the week ending January 28.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amere Lattin * Jr. * Houston * Missouri City, Texas
Lattin clocked a season-best time of 7.80 to place first in the 60-meter hurdles at the Houston Invitational. His mark is the 16th-fastest in the NCAA this season and ranks No. 1 in The American. The Cougars have earned the conference’s Track Athlete of the Week honor three times in a row.   
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chelsea Francis * So. * SMU * Carrollton, Texas
Francis won the final of the 60-meter dash at the Houston Invitational with a time of 7.34. She additionally ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay to pace her team to finishing second place (3:56.32). She holds the top 60-meter time in The American. Her mark is also the second-fastest in SMU history and ranks No. 23 in the nation.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ryan Davis * Jr. * ECU * Fayetteville, N.C.
Davis claimed the weight throw title at the Liberty Kickoff with a distance of 20.51 meters (67' 3.5"). His mark leads the conference and is 23rd nationally.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Annette Echikunwoke * Sr. * Cincinnati * Pickerington, Ohio
Echikunwoke continued to make her mark in NCAA history over the weekend, setting personal record in the weight throw with a distance of 23.69 meters (77' 8.75"). The senior recorded three throws over 23 meters to win the weight throw at the Indiana Relays. Her distance is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA and No. 3 in the world. She is the only woman in NCAA history to have multiple throws over 23 meters in a career and the first to reach the 23-meter mark since 2008. Overall, her mark ranks No. 13 all-time in NCAA history. Echikunwoke also placed second in the shot put at Gladstein Fieldhouse with a distance of 16.30 meters. Her shot put distance ranks No. 1 in The American and No. 13 in the country.
