PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its swimming and diving weekly honors for the week ending Jan. 28.
Female Swimmer of the Week
Paris Zhang * Jr. * Tulane
Zhang produced two second-place individual times and one fourth-place relay finish last week in a quad-meet against LSU, Rice and Houston. The junior earned a second-place finish in the 100 back and 100 free with conference top-15 times of 55.76 and 51.00, respectively. The Sydney, Australia native was Tulane’s highest finisher across all events, and helped her relay team place fourth in the 400 free with a time of 3:22.01.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Jonathan Gomez * Sr. * SMU
Gomez finished first and runner-up in individual races against No. 9 Texas A&M. The senior touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a career-best time of 9:18.72, good for ninth all-time at SMU. Gomez finished second in the 200 fly with a conference-leading time of 1:47.00, qualifying for NCAA B cuts.
Female Diver of the Week
Ellen Posch * Sr. * Cincinnati
Posch earned two first-place scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events this past weekend at the Keating Aquatic Center against Kenyon College. The senior finished with 269.10 points in the 1-meter and 305.80 points in the 3-meter.
Male Diver of the Week
Mitch Godar * Sr. * Cincinnati
Godar produced two first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter against Kenyon last week. The senior finished with 343.70 points in the 1-meter and 351.90 points in the 3-meter. Both scores qualify for NCAA zones and are first and second-best in the league, respectively.
