Highlights
Two-time defending American champion Houston opened its 2018 season with a victory over Incarnate Word and UT Permian Basin, while other schools across the league competed in their respective intrasquad meets. Five programs will be in action next weekend with four teams opening their seasons from October 5-6.
The conference slate gets underway when Houston heads to New Orleans to face Tulane. Cincinnati will host Indianapolis, and ECU will welcome North Carolina to Minges Natatorium. UConn travels to Navy to take on the Midshipmen and LSU.
- Houston defeated UIW, 198-98 and UTPB 208-56. The Cougars won 14 out of the 16 events, posting 27 podium finishes. Houston swept the 100-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Freestyle and the 200-yard Backstroke. Zarena Brown picked up a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:51.08) and the 100-yard Freestyle (51.76). Houston returns 13 all-conference honorees from last season’s squad and four individual champions from last season’s conference meet (Lauren Burrell, Zarena Brown, Peyton Kondis, Eleanna Koutsouveli).
- The Purple squad narrowly defeated the Gold team in the annual ECU swimming and diving Intrasquad Meet Friday afternoon at Minges Natatorium, 232-216. The two teams combined to set nine meet records with freshman Marek Osina establishing meet marks in the men's 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke and 200 IM and was a part of the record-setting 200 medley relay team.
