PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 14.
Offensive Player of the Week
Tomasz Skublak * Sr. * F * USF
Skublak propelled USF to another hard-fought three points in conference competition on Friday, netting the game-winner in overtime as the Bulls defeated Temple 3-2. The score off Alex Zis’ corner kick marked Skublak’s third game-winning goal of the season and second golden goal. With the thrilling win, USF remains unbeaten in conference play with a 2-0-2 record and tied atop the standings with 8 points.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jacob Hauser-Ramsey * Sr. * D * UConn
For the third-consecutive week, Hauser-Ramsey collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades as UConn remained unbeaten in conference play. The No. 20 Huskies battled to a 0-0 draw with No. 19 UCF, holding the nation’s third-best scoring offense to just its third shutout of the season. Hauser-Ramsey and UConn are unbeaten in their last seven games and have yielded just five goals in that span.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Grant Makela * Jr. * SMU
Makela picked up his fifth shutout of this season on Friday as SMU defeated Memphis 3-0. The junior turned aside all four shots he faced. With five shutouts in his 11 games in net this season, Makela and SMU lead the conference in the category so far this season. He also ranks second in the league with his 0.79 goals against average.
Rookie of the Week
Gilles Kuhler * Fr. * F * Tulsa
Kuhler lifted Tulsa to its first conference win of the season on Saturday, netting the lone goal in the 75
th minute as the Golden Hurricane defeated Cincinnati. Kuhler placed two shots on net in the game, capping a 1-0-1 week for Tulsa. Kuhler now owns two Rookie of the Week nods on the season.
