PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the seventh week of the college football season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
McKenzie Milton • UCF • Jr. • QB • Kapolei, Hawaii
Milton kept UCF unbeaten and led the Knights to their 19th consecutive victory, a 31-30 come-from-behind win at Memphis. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown and capped UCF’s comeback from a 30-17 halftime deficit with a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that stood up as the gamewinner. Milton has thrown 16 touchdown passes and has a team-high six rushing TDs in 2018.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ed Oliver • Houston • Jr. • DT • Houston, Texas
Oliver tied The American’s single-game record with 5.0 tackles for loss to go with 2.0 sacks, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble that produced a Houston touchdown in the Cougars’ 42-20 win at ECU. Oliver led a defense that held ECU to 41 rushing yards as the Cougars remain alone in first place in The American’s West Division. Oliver has registered 11.5 tackles for loss and nine quarterback hurries this season.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matthew Wright • UCF • Sr. • K • Lancaster, Pa.
Wright scored seven points, including a key 44-yard field goal at the halftime gun and went 4-for-4 on PATs in UCF’s 31-30 win at Memphis. Wright’s field goal brought UCF within two scores of the Tigers, while his final PAT, in the fourth quarter, accounted for the winning point.
Coby Weiss • USF • So. • K • Gainesville, Fla.
Weiss scored seven points, including the game-winning field goal with two seconds left, to lift USF to a 25-24 win at Tulsa. Weiss accounted for USF’s first and last points as he connected from 22 yards in the first quarter before hitting his gamewinner from the same distance.
