PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference women’s soccer weekly awards recognized that accomplishments of the No. 20/17-ranked USF Bulls which went 2-0 last week and clinched at least a share of the regular-season championship along with a postseason berth along with RV/22 Memphis and 24/- UCF.
Offensive Player of the Week
Evelyne Viens * Jr. * F * USF
Viens became the all-time leading goal scorer at USF as she netted a brace in a 5-1 win over SMU. It was her sixth two-goal game as the season. Viens has now accrued 45 career goals with 17 this season to also set the USF program record. She also added an assist against SMU four a five-point game and was active in a 3-2 win against Houston to help the Bulls to a six-match win streak.
Defensive Player of the Week
Sabrina Wagner * So. * D * USF
Wagner was extremely active on both sides of the ball for a USF team that clinched at least a share of The American regular-season title. The defender played all 90 minutes in the win over Houston in which she helped limit the Cougars to just seven shots. Wagner also scored a goal and assisted on another.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Vera Varis * Sr. * UCF
Varis earned the 20
th shutout of her career in a 3-0 win over Houston as she moved into sixth place on the all-time list at UCF. She made five stops on the week to push her career total to 221. The victory clinched the Knights a spot in the American Athletic Conference championship tournament. She allowed just one goal in 180 minutes last week.
Rookie of the Week
Sydny Nasello * Fr. * F * USF
Nasello becomes the eighth different freshman to earn the top rookie honor this season. She posted three points in the Bulls win over Houston as she netted her fourth goal of the season and added an assist for the 15
th point of her young career. Her points helped USF to a 2-0 week and a share of the regular season crown.
