Houston's King; Cincinnati Duo Take Weekly Football Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the ninth week of the college football season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
D’Eriq King • Houston • Jr. • QB • Manvel, Texas
King, who also was chosen as the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, tied the American Athletic Conference single-game record by figuring in seven touchdowns to lead Houston past No. 21/20 USF 57-36. King completed 28 of 40 passes for 419 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions (one on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half) and rushed for a game-high 132 yards with two touchdowns on 12 carries. King, who had a career-high 551 yards of total offense against the previously unbeaten Bulls, enters Week 10 as the national leader in points responsible for (236).
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Wiggins • Cincinnati • So. • S • Homestead, Fla.
Wiggins made the game-winning play in overtime to give Cincinnati a 26-20 win at SMU, keeping the Bearcats a game out of first place in the American Athletic Conference East Division. With the Bearcats on defense to start overtime, Wiggins picked off a third-down pass over the middle and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown. Wiggins leads the Bearcats with three interceptions and scored his first career touchdown
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cole Smith • Cincinnati • Fr. • K • Middletown, Ohio
Smith scored eight points, including a pair of second-half field goals, to help Cincinnati to a 26-20 win at SMU. Smith hit from 24 yards in the third quarter to give the Bearcats a 17-7 lead and he made a 41-yard attempt as time expired in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
