No. 3 UCF Blanks No. 6 Temple in First Round, 3-0

BOX SCORE

TAMPA, Fla.
- The UCF offense came out firing in the first match of the 2018 American Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship at USF's Corbett Stadium. The No. 3 seed Knights shut out the No. 6 seed Temple Owls, 3-0, to advance to Friday's Semifinal Round where UCF will take on No. 2 Memphis.

UCF put up the most shots in an American tournament match since 2015 with 22 kicks toward the Temple net; six short of the championship record. Five of those shots came off the foot of rookie Kristen Scott who was involved on all three scores. She netted the first two goals for the Knights and assisted on the third.

The Knights offense started fast with seven corner kicks to just one for Temple in the first half and broke through with a 21st minute goal. UCF kept it going in the second with two more scores and 13 of its shots in the second stanza.

It was sophomore Dina Orschmann who lifted one in from the far side of the box to the awaiting Scott in the 21st. The rookie headed it up past the outstretched arms of Temple goalkeeper Morgan Basileo as the ball deflected down off the crossbar to the post and just over the goal line.

Scott found the brace in the 61st minute off a half-field launch on the pass from freshman Elise Legrout. The rookie duo connected as the pass found her feet perfectly just as she entered the box and Scott buried it down and left at the far post.

UCF's leading scorer also got in on the action in the 74th minute as sophomore Stefanie Sanders was the beneficiary of another strong run by Scott. Sanders finished with an easy shot to an open net as Scott ran past the defense, drew out the keeper and passed left across her face to find the foot of her teammate.

Temple, which earned its first conference postseason berth since 2015, made its fourth appearance in The American Championship. Its No. 6 seed tied its highest mark.

UCF is back in the American Athletic Conference Semifinals for the fifth time in six seasons and faces No. 19/18 Memphis on Friday, November 2. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m., and can be watched live on the American Digital Network on Facebook.
