Highlights
- Cincinnati opened its season with a sweep over visiting Indianapolis Friday night. The women won 245-55 while the men won 166.33-133.66. Claire Schuermann, the reigning American Athletic Conference Women's Diver of the Year, started right where she left off, posting two NCAA Zone scores and winning both of her events.
- Houston picked up its second-straight win and posted 26 top-three finishes and swept two events, Saturday morning at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium for a 151-50 – 148.50 win over Tulane. Zarena Brown posted three first-place finishes in the 100 Free (51.86), 200 Free (1:51.12) and the 500 Free (5:03.12). The Green Wave captured six of the first seven events.
- The UConn women competed in its first meet of the season with a two-day event at the US Naval Academy. The Huskies lost 224.0-129.0 against Navy and 286.0-67.0 vs. LSU in the 38-event weekend. Monica Marcello returned from injury last season and highlighted the meet. She recorded a 252.20 score in 1M to secure a third place finish and then followed it up with a runner-up finish in the 3M (303.70).
- The Husky men also took a pair of losses in the two-day meet, falling to the Midshipmen 273.0-74.0 and to LSU, 283.0-64.0. Will Kearsey kicked off his season with an impressive meet that contained a third place finish in 50 Free (21:03) and 100 Free (45.47). In his premier backstroke event, Kearsey finished third (49.66) in the 100
- The ECU men’s and women’s teams both fell in their season-opening dual meet against North Carolina on Friday at Minges Natatorium, by scores of 196-99 on the women's side and 159-141 for the men. The men were led by freshman Marek Osina with three individual first-place finishes. Osina touched first in the 200 IM (1:51.67), 200 backstroke (1:48.16) and 200 butterfly (1:51.91). Catherine Johnson was the lone victor on the ladies side for ECU. She reached the wall a mere 0.07 ahead of teammate Stefanie Scherwitzel in the 100 free (52.13).
